RCM Music Theory Classes and Examinations

Music Theory is the study of how music works. It examines the language and notation of music and seeks to identify patterns and structures in composer's techniques, across or within genres, styles, or historical periods.

In a grand sense, music theory distills and analyzes the fundamental parameters or elements of music-rhythm, harmony, melody, structure, form, texture, etc.

Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to prepare for the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Examinations. A $15.00 photocopy fee is required for this program.

Ear Training and Sight-Singing Class

This class teaches skills that are vitally important to any musician and are especially important to singers.

Ear Training will involve learning to identify, solely by hearing, pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms, and other basic elements of music.

Sight-Singing will involve learning how to read and perform a piece of written music, when the performer has never seen it before. A $15.00 photocopy and music dictation book fee is required for this class.

Show Choir

This group will learn a variety of Broadway and popular songs in unison and 2-Part, many of which will also involve riser choreography.

Participants must have the ability to sing in tune and will be tested at the first rehearsal.

This group will perform several times throughout the year. At Christmas, the instructor will arrange to take the choir to a couple of Senior’s Homes and the group will also perform at the Class Act Performing Arts Studios Drama & Musical Theatre year end (spring).

This class will also perform a final concert at Class Act Performing Arts Studios.

A $40.00 photocopy fee is required for this class.
