About This Class

Challenge Broadway Teen builds on performance skills with increased focus on character development, musical interpretation, and expressive movement. Classes challenge dancers to combine technical dance skills with theatrical storytelling.

From August to December, training focuses on refining performance quality and expressive technique. From January to June, dancers develop choreography for recital and competitions with an emphasis on stage presence and storytelling.

Girls

  • Black plain t-shirt or top

  • Class Act black jazz shoes

  • Hair off the face in a ponytail or braid

Boys

  • Black t-shirt

To make things easier, required attire is available for purchase at the studio.

Evie Sawatzky

Evie Sawatzky

Broadway and Private Voice Instructor

Evie has taught music, dance, acting and musical theatre for over 25 years. She fans sparks into flames and helps students find their voices. Discovery of character and understanding of theory go hand in hand with honouring the intention of the composers/authors. She believes in giving back to the community that raised her up... and lifting up children and newcomers to become a part of "community". Evie believes that ALL students can grow... ALL students that WANT to learn and fully invest themselves in lessons... well they continue to amaze her every day.

Evie’s students have worked for professional theatres across Canada, Disney, and are recording artists in rock, jazz, folk and country. They have attended prestigious conservatories and Universities in Toronto, NYC, and across Canada. Her voice students are consistently recognized by Conservatory Canada for receiving the highest exam marks in Saskatchewan.

Evie is a full member of Canadian Actors Equity Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, and past chair of the Saskatchewan Association of Theatre Professionals. She is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC, BA in Vocal Performance (Briercrest College), Graduate Certificate in Strategic Marketing an Online Digital Strategies (Harvard University) and is pursuing her Masters in Management (Harvard University). In 2009, she won the RSO’s singing as a vocalist she has toured the prairies with her husband Jeff and their Orchestra, Big Band, and jazz combo.

As a professional actress and director, she co-founded a theatre company in Moose Jaw which grew over it's 12 years to become a professional theatre and registered charity operating under the Canadian Theatre Agreement and a full member of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (RuBarb Productions 2006-2018). In 2013, CBC Saskatchewan Future 40 recognized her contributions to the arts in Saskatchewan. She is pleased to inspire and challenge students in the Class Act Family.
